#006 Rauchbier

#006 Oak Chip rauchbeir

This is our Rauchbier which is a style of beer made typically in Germany by smoking the malts used in the beer. Usually Rauchbier tends to be a dark beer that is savory and really smoky, but some chemical reaction happened during the fermentation process and it turned out to be quite sour.

However this went really well with the smoky and toasty notes which still remained in the beer from the smoked malts. It was almost like a barrel aged sour beer, and I’m actually really happy how this tuned out. First you get the toasty notes on your nose then you get to the pleasant sourness, and is finished by the sweet aroma of the oak chips as it goes through your nose.

This pairs great with fruits, cheeses, bacon, salads, and other sweet and savory finger foods. Rather than having this with a meal I think it would be a great to have with a charcuterie plate.
